For eight remarkable decades, ACS Athens has stood as a beacon of knowledge, integrity, and global citizenship. This milestone is not just a celebration of time passed, but a tribute to the countless individuals—students, educators, and visionaries—who have shaped the hearts and minds of those who walked through our doors. Our alumni have gone beyond the walls of our institution to become changemakers, improving lives and leaving an indelible mark on the world. As Dr. Pelonis so eloquently stated, “Who dares to say that one person can’t change the world? Look around you tonight—witness the undeniable proof that they can, and they have.” From artists whose creations stir the soul, to astronauts who have expanded the boundaries of human possibility, to peacemakers who have bridged divides, ACS Athens has fostered leaders who embrace the responsibility of creating a better world.
We were honored to welcome an extraordinary lineup of speakers whose achievements reflect the very essence of ACS Athens—leadership, innovation, and global impact. Maria Olson, Charge d’Affaires at the US Embassy, US Embassy. Alexander Payne, award-winning Hollywood filmmaker, and Scott Parazynski, astronaut, innovator, and entrepreneur, each bringing a powerful testament to the limitless possibilities of passion and perseverance. Alongside them, we proudly celebrate our Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Charles Eliot, Young Leadership Award winner, Georgios Petropoulos, and Distinguished Alumni Service Award winner, Mark Wolper—remarkable individuals who embody the true spirit of our school. As we listened in awe to their inspiring stories, they ignited within us a renewed sense of purpose, creativity, and resilience—reminding us all that bold dreams, unwavering determination, and the courage to lead can indeed change the world.
Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Pascal Apostolides, reminded the audience that an 80 year legacy of excellence in education and conscious citizenship is created by the people who are committed to creating environments of learning where all students can learn and reach for the stars!
Dr. Peggy Pelonis ended her message with:
Tonight, as we reflect on 80 years of impact, we do more than celebrate the past—we reaffirm our commitment to the future. Our honorees remind us that greatness is not born from ease, but from perseverance, resilience, and the courage to rise in the face of adversity. In an era of global challenges, the legacy of ACS Athens shines brighter than ever, proving that education is the foundation of meaningful change. Earlier today, our alumni shared their wisdom with the next generation, igniting the spark of possibility in our students—future architects of a world that values justice, innovation, and compassion. As we stand together at this moment in history, we recommit to the vision that has guided us for 80 years: to inspire, to empower, and to shape a future where every student believes in their ability to make a difference. Here’s to the next 80 years of impact, leadership, and a world made better—Happy Birthday, ACS Athens!
