This year, ACS Middle School students embarked on a vibrant journey to honor and celebrate their mother tongues, echoing UNESCO's theme of "Multilingual education as a pillar of intergenerational learning."
In February 2024, students in their advisory classes explored the question, "What do you feel when you think about your mother tongue?" Through an interactive online tool, a blossoming "answer garden" captured their responses. Overwhelmingly, students associated their native languages with feelings of home, comfort, and family.
The celebration continued with a call for volunteers to create a diverse exhibition. Students poured their creativity into poems, stories, and artwork, all in their native languages. Comparative essays explored cultural celebrations, research projects delved into the importance of language identity, and posters envisioned the future of AI-powered language learning.
This culmination of voices came to life in a three-day schoolwide exhibition in May. The IMLD committee (Ms. Arnold, Ms. Perez, and Ms. Orrego) extends heartfelt gratitude to the entire Middle School community - students and staff alike - for making this collaborative effort a resounding success.
Way to go, Middle School! Your diverse voices create a truly inspiring mosaic!
