What an incredible two days it has been at ACS Athens as we immersed ourselves in the enchanting world of literacy during our school-wide Literacy Festival on April 16th and 17th, 2024.
The festival, dedicated to celebrating the power of language and communication, kicked off with an awe-inspiring Literary Morning. Students practiced reading for 30 minutes in every corner of the school.
Elementary School students embarked on a journey of creativity and imagination with a myriad of activities, including crafting story stones, composing poetry collages, and producing captivating book trailers. Each classroom became a hub of literary exploration, nurturing a love for reading and writing in our youngest learners.
Meanwhile, in Middle School and Academy classrooms, literacy seamlessly intertwined with various subjects, enriching lesson plans and fostering deeper connections with content. Teachers across disciplines integrated literacy skills into their teachings, from social studies to math, literature to science, and beyond, igniting a passion for learning through the lens of language.
In the Learning Commons, students engaged in a Book Drive, delved into the world of new languages through hands-on activities, and had the privilege of meeting a Guest Author. Workshops hosted by the Math Studio and the Writing Studio provided invaluable insights and tools for further exploration and growth.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all teachers, staff, and students who actively participated in the festival, contributing to its success and making it a truly memorable experience. Your dedication to promoting literacy at ACS Athens is truly commendable, and it is through your support and enthusiasm that we cultivate a vibrant literary culture within our community.
