ACS Athens Middle School students celebrated and honored their native tongues for UNESCO's International Mother Language Day (IMLD). The event was spearheaded by the ACS Athens IMLD Committee, Ms. Maria Perez, Ms. Christina Rocha, and Dr. Jenny Grigoropoulou, and the creative musical collaboration with Ms. Anna Mancl. The theme for this year's IMLD was “multilingual education - a necessity to transform education.”

This special day honors and values each and every language spoken as the ACS Athens community speaks over 30 different languages.

Throughout the year, Middle School students have been learning and exploring through their classes and reflecting on the following questions:

  • What is culture?
  • What does culture mean to you?
  • What is language?
  • How important is language to cultural identity?
  • Who are we?

Students presented the connections they made throughout this deep learning inquiry using their own creations with words, music and art.

ACS Athens is very proud of its diverse, linguistic and creative student community and supports it every step of the way.
