LibOwl is the monthly podcast of the Sabbagh Library at ACS Athens, where host Dr. Marco V. Crivellaro, the school's Librarian and Literacy Studio Coordinator, and his guests engage in discussions on art, philosophy, literature, psychology, and science. Produced by Shaya Ehteshamzad and Pinelopi Feida, class of 2025, in collaboration with the ACS Athens Media Studio, LibOwl brings together experts and educators to explore ideas that shape the way we think, learn, and experience the world.
The initial four full episodes of this podcast are available. The first episode features IB Psychology and Theory of Knowledge teacher Angela Chamosfakidis, who shares her admiration for Nobel Prize-winning psychologist Daniel Kahneman. The conversation further applies his theories to education and students’ growth, touching on the human experience of learning through failure and the emotional aspect of decision-making, in contrast to machine learning.
In the second episode, sports science experts Justin Cramer and Christos Stachikas break down the science behind athletic performance. From biomechanics to nutrition, they discuss how scientific principles are applied to optimize training and elevate both elite and recreational athletes.
The third episode takes listeners on a journey with educators Amalia Zavakopoulou and Hercules Lianos as they reflect on the transformative power of travel. Drawing from their personal experiences and academic field studies, they examine how immersing oneself in different cultures deepens historical and artistic understanding.
Finally, in the fourth episode, Dr. Crivellaro is joined by chemistry and environmental science expert Spyros Arsenikos for a discussion on scientific literacy in modern education. They touch upon the challenges of navigating misinformation in public discourse, and the ability of the media to raise scientific literacy or distort reliable data for commercial or politicized purposes.
With engaging conversations and fresh perspectives, LibOwl invites listeners to explore the intersections of knowledge, discovery, and education. You may subscribe and listen to all episodes on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon, or directly at castos.com.
