IB/High School Math Teacher
Reports to: High School Principal
School Year: 2nd semester 2024-2025, 2025-2026
ACS Athens, a student-centered international school, embracing American educational philosophy, principles and values, is seeking to recruit an IB/High School Math Teacher to teach IB/high school students. The teacher reports to the High School Principal.
Duties:
- Provide learning experiences in all aspects of Math, while creating an environment that is conducive to student learning and involvement;
- Collaborate with colleagues to plan and implement the scope and sequence of the curriculum and assessments in support of students’ learning;
- Monitor students' understanding of the curriculum, provide ongoing feedback, and adjust instruction, materials, and assessments when appropriate;
- Evaluate, try innovative approaches, and refine instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies available to teachers, to increase student learning, involvement, and confidence to learn;
- Know and use technology in teaching;
- Demonstrate appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning;
- Maintain and improve professional competence through attendance at professional development events;
- Share responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department;
- Plans, participates, supports co-curricular activities (i.e. performances, parent-teacher conferences) beyond classroom (afterschool);
- Develop lessons that promote critical thinking, independent learning, and inquiry-based approaches;
- Collaborate with IB Coordinators and faculty to ensure alignment with IB expectations, including deadlines and curriculum pacing;
- Participate in IB-specific professional development, workshops, and training to remain up-to-date with IB practices, curriculum changes, and global teaching strategies;
- Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Licensed to teach Math grades 9-12;
- IB teaching experience preferred, with a comprehensive understanding of IB Mathematics curriculum, assessment criteria, and examination requirements;
- Bachelor's Degree, Master’s preferred, from an accredited college or university, in Math;
- Valid Teaching License;
- At least two years of relevant teaching experience, required;
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to students (ages 15 - 18);
- Fluency in English;
- Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies;
- Prior experience with IB-specific curriculum planning, assessment, and classroom instruction preferred;
- Display commitment to safeguarding and protection of children.
