Essential Responsibilities:

- Oversees selection, admission, and registration of students into the IB program.

- Represents ACS Athens to the IBO organization.
- In conjunction with the Academy Principal, manages the evaluation of faculty teaching IB courses.
- Oversees the AP courses and the AP examination process with the assistance of the AP Coordinator.

The job of the Optimal Learning Program Specialist entails coordinating all assigned special education program components and related activities, communicating confidential information to others, and implementing and maintaining standard of services within the ACS Athens established guidelines.
Duties:
- Student Profiles: Write Individual Learning Plans (ILP), Advanced Learning Plans (ALP), and Individual Support Plans (ISP).
- Accommodations: Provide necessary accommodations for assignments, tests, and projects.
- Extension Opportunities: Offer enhancement learning opportunities for high-ability students.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with faculty in content classes and provide specialist support for differentiation; communicate with external therapists. Meet with students and parents to discuss accommodations and observations.

Reports to: Director of Learning Commons
Basic Function and Scope:
Performs a variety of instructional and support tasks in the school as a substitute teacher in the Elementary School, Middle School or Academy as needed. Functions in the capacity of classroom instructors to teach, support and guide all students based on the lesson plans identified by the regular classroom teacher for the set time of substitution. Additionally, performs supervision duties of students, wherever and whenever necessary.
Instructs in the following disciplines but not limited to:
English Language and Literature, Humanities, Mathematics, Science, Greek, Foreign Languages, ESL, Fine Arts, Technology, Physical Education, Elementary School and Early Childhood.
Duties Performed (per day):
- Provides learning experiences while creating an environment that is conducive to student learning and involvement;
- Directs group activities of students assigned; assists in monitoring students as directed;
- Proctors exams;
- Substituting for classroom teachers, as needed, schoolwide;
- Follows teacher learning plans and reports on daily progress;
- Supports and maintains classroom policies;
- Prepares classroom materials for distribution;
- Corrects work books or other short answer classroom work;
- Demonstrates appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning;
- Demonstrates positive and effective classroom management skills;
- Supervises children during recess, lunch or early morning or late afternoon periods outside;
- Supervises students in classrooms, library, theater or other areas of the building;
- Assists students with learning in small groups or one-on-one instructional sessions;
- Participates and improves professional competence through attendance of professional development events;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree, Master's preferred, from an accredited college or university, in Education;
- At least two years of relevant teaching experience, required;
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to students (ages 6 – 10) in English;
- Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies;
- Display commitment to safeguarding and protection of children.
